Sir Nelson Mandela was one of the most iconic and powerful socialist, nationalist and activist I have ever seen. Without a doubt, Sir Mandela was a revolutionary leader. This is something, which every one of us knows.
While reading about his incredible journey and his life in quotes, I gathered a few things as part of my wisdom.
- Be Brave.
I remember, my first job as a Business Development specialist, I had a task to get 10 qualified appointments for sales managers each month. The first few months flew in training and understandings of the services, the next few reminded me of my grave mistake of choosing this job.
When I read this quote in one of his articles, I could instantly relate it to my current situation then.
In his own wise words, this is what Nelson Mandela said:-
“Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers his fear”
- Always be happy.
It is important to remain in the right frame of mind in sales, which is always staying positive. The first 4 months of my business development job was like hell on earth. I used to make 100 calls every day, send 50 emails, leave tons of voice mail. Yet, success eluded me. This is when I learnt my second lesson from Madiba:
“The greatest glory in living lies not in falling, but in rising every time we fall”
If you are at peace with yourself, others around you will be at peace too.
- Love what you do.
Success is not a one-month contract. The routine of being successful is continuous. You have to love what you do, be passionate about it. You need to immerse yourself in what you are doing to achieve the targets assigned Month on month, year on year.
“Everyone can rise above the circumstances and achieve success if they are dedicated to and passionate about what they do”
On his 100th Birth anniversary, I pray that his soul rests in peace. ,
The life he lived and what he achieved out of it is remarkable. His words have created a massive impact on people across the globe. I am glad and thankful to get an opportunity to read about him and know his massive contributions.
I will leave with this parting thought – “Tread Softly. Breathe Peacefully. Laugh Hysterically”
